Summer Camps with horses are always a big favorite. Ellen Taylor of The Harness Horse Youth Foundation gives it a new twist.
In this episode of HORSING AROUND we talk with Ellen Taylor of The Harness Horse Youth Foundation and learn about their one day summer camps for kids and their family night events where participants can work with harness horses. You’ll learn to groom and care for the horse, learn to hook up a jog cart and even learn the basics of driving a horse on the racetrack!

Our programs feature a day full of horses and hands-on activity including driving a racehorse. Specific areas include learning about equine behavior and anatomy, equipment, and more! Participants will come away with horse dirt under their fingernails as well as a great introduction to harness racing’s excitement!
- You will learn about harnessing and hitching and all about Standardbreds!
- You will have hands-on time with horses and hear from industry pros!
- Most of all, you will have fun as well as lunch!
- Opportunities to learn about your areas of harness racing interest!
- Time to spend with industry pros!
- Lots of horse and barn time!
- In depth looks at many aspects of horse racing!
- Fun, friends, and food!
Anyone over the age of 10 is welcome to apply but registration is limited – first-come, first-served.
All participants should wear long pants and solid toed shoes.
Covid policies will be in effect at all locations.
If registering for a camp, please be sure to upload the signed photo release, medical form, and liability waiver. These forms must be on file prior to check-in the morning of the camp.
