No. 9 Ohio State Sweeps Michigan

First 3-0 win over Wolverines since 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9 Ohio State women’s volleyball team handled Michigan in straight sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-17) on Saturday night inside the Covelli Center. The Buckeyes improve to 15-1 this season as the Wolverines drop to 4-5.

Ohio State swept its season series with Michigan for the first time since 2006. It was also the first time since Nov. 27, 2009 that the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines in straight sets.

Emily Londot extended her season-long streak of double-digit kills with 16, a match high, while hitting .448. Vanja Bukilić added 14 kills while Rylee Rader chipped in eight kills. Gabby Gonzales did a little bit of everything behind 10 digs, seven kills and three aces.

Mac Podraza dished 41 assists, her 14th match with at least 40 helpers, and tied her career mark with five blocks. Hannah Gruensfelder and Kylie Murr recorded 14 and 13 digs, respectively. Lauren Witte and Rader both had three rejections at the net.

The Buckeyes had a .372 hitting percentage (53-11-113) while limiting the Wolverines to a .188 rate (35-14-112).

SET 1: Michigan needed an early timeout after falling behind 14-9. A Witte-Podraza block sent the Wolverines back to their bench down 19-11. Michigan put together a 4-0 run to pull within five at 20-15. The Buckeyes tallied the last three points to take the set, 25-17.

SET 2: Bukilić paced the Buckeyes during the second set, hitting .800 (8-0-10). The teams traded points until Ohio State took a 19-15 lead after three consecutive kills by Bukilić. The Wolverines cut the deficit to two at 21-19 but four kills by four different Buckeyes sealed the win, 25-20.

SET 3: Ohio State quickly doubled up on Michigan, 10-5, to get the rally going. The Wolverines fought their way back to within a pair, 19-17. It was all about the Buckeyes in the end as they closed the match on a 6-0 run for a 25-17 tally.

Ohio State will host Purdue on March 26-27 to close out its home slate.
